Pharmacy Licensing Preparation Program (PLP program)

Course Description

This Course is designed to assist pharmacy graduates in preparing for the Pharmacy licensing examinations in UAE. The course will refresh candidate’s knowledge & will provide comprehensive training in all topics related to the examinations.


Learning Objectives
  • A brief about the seven main topics that should be covered during the preparation for the exam.
  • Guidance on how to prepare for your exam.
  • Theory explanation to refresh all your information that you got during the college and which will help in attending the exam.
  • Practical sessions to Solve and explain previous tests MCQ, which will give you better understanding of the exam module.
  • Understand the test format and the range and types of questions typically asked .
  •  
Target Audience

Pharmacist graduated from UAE or any other pharmacy colleges in the world and preparing to attend any of the licensing exam in UAE (MOH /DHA/HAAD exams).


Inclusions
  • Every weekend for almost 3 months
  • The pharmacist will attend  60 hours of  Continuing Education and Training
  • The training will include theory part and Practical part (MCQ trails)
  • Printed presentations and MCQs will be available for the trainee 
  • At the end of the training , you will have a DEMO exam to try similar experience before attending the exam

Graduates Forum

Graduation Ceremony 2012

UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended ceremonies marking the graduation of female medical and pharmacology students, held at the Al Johara Hall in Madinat Jumairah in Dubai today.

Also attending the ceremonies for students graduating from Dubai Medical College and Dubai Pharmacy College were Dubai Deputy Ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Youth, Culture and Community Development Abdul Rahman Mohammed Nassir Al Owais, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for both colleges Hajj Saeed Ahmed Lootah, Director General of Dubai Health Authority Qadhi Saeed Al Murooshid, senior officials and a large gathering of the graduates' families.

Following a rendition of the national anthem, the chairman of both colleges, Hajj Saeed Ahmed Lootah, delivered an address in which he thanked Sheikh Mohammed for his leadership and support for the colleges since their establishment 26 years ago. He also praised His Highness for his continuous backing for science and education in the country, stressing that the colleges translate Sheikh Mohammed’s vision in implementing its programmes and initiatives.
Sheikh Mohammed then watched a documentary about the development of education in the UAE and another about His Highness’ honouring of mother on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of his becoming the Ruler of Dubai.

Graduates from the faculty of medicine then stood before Sheikh Mohammed and took the Hippocratic Oath.

Sheikh Mohammed honoured the top ten graduates and a number of college students who currently hold leadership positions in various institutions across the country.

Sheikh Mohammed then congratulated the 67 medical and 59 pharmaceutical graduates, wishing them a promising future, before standing for photos with them.

Graduation Ceremony 2013

The 23rd Graduation Ceremony of Dubai Medical College & 18th Graduation Ceremony of Dubai Pharmacy College, was attended by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai held at the Madinat Jumeirah.

Posing for photos with the graduates, Sheikh Mohammed expressed his happiness for seeing this great number of Emirati graduates, stressing that the education is the cornerstone for building this dear nation.

He also wished them more successes to reach the highest standards in order to serve their country and community with their knowledge and science.

Sheikh Mohammed also lauded the efforts of Hajj Saeed bin Ahmed Al Lootah, the Founder and Chairman of both colleges, which have been graduating Emirati girls for more than 27 years.

Honorary dignitary Sayyida Alyaa Bint Saeed Al Thouni from Oman and patron of the Al Noor Association for the Blind, who was also present at the event stressed that a greater number of health care professionals is needed to keep pace with the strides in technology and health care.
The DMCG was established in 1986 and DPC, the first pharmacy college in the Gulf, in 1992.

Also attending the ceremonies for students graduating from Dubai Medical College and Dubai Pharmacy College were, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Hajj Saeed Ahmed Lootah, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for both colleges, and senior officials, dignitaries, educationalists along with a large gathering of the graduates' families.

Graduates from the faculty of medicine stood before Sheikh Mohammed and took the Hippocratic Oath.

During the event, Sheikh Mohammed watched a documentary about the development of education in the U.A.E. and then congratulated the 132 graduates

Sheikh Mohammed then congratulated the 63 medical and 69 pharmaceutical graduates, wishing them a promising future, before standing for photos with them.

Student Services

Dubai Pharmacy College (DPC) provides all educational support facilities to its students. The students get the best scientific training and knowledge which will make them eligible as pharmacists to boost the vast scientific and industrial development of U.A.E.

College Bulding

slife1.jpgThe College building, is a two floor namely the ground and the upper level. The ground floor has the Dean's office, Faculty office, Laboratories. on the ground floor has five laboratories, a model pharmacy with a drug information center, administrative and faculty offices, a meeting room and a reception section. On the first floor, are housed three laboratories, four lecture rooms, student's union office, students' common room, and chemical and glassware store. The animal house is located in a building adjacent to the College. Besides the above facilities, the College is supported by a Machine Room (Industrial unit) situated in the Lootah's Educational Campus for conducting training and practicals in Pharmaceutics-I & II and Pharmaceutical technology courses.

Laboratary and instrumentation facilities

DPC possesses well-equipped laboratories for each discipline. There are eight laboratories in the College premises equipped with scientific apparatus and equipment required for practical and scientific investigations. Some laboratories are in Dubai Medical College and are common to both the Colleges. The laboratories are:

Auditorium

A well-furnished auditorium, located in DMCG, is spacious and suitable for any cultural occasion. It has become a regular venue for all social and cultural activities of DPC.

Study Rooms

DPC provides study room facilities for its students, which may be utilized by them in their break hours and also by hostel students after the class hours. These study rooms are located in DMCG and are well furnished with all required facilities. The students have an easy access to these study rooms and are free to use all facilities present there like computers with Internet and Journals.

Central library

The Central Library, housed in DMCG adjacent to DPC offers an excellent environment for study. It is available to students at various stages of study.

Computer Laboratory

The Computer Laboratory, well equipped with thirty three computers, have Internet connections along with thirty three auditory systems. Besides this Computer Laboratory, the College enjoys full technical guidance, support and know- how from the Information Technology (IT) department, which is its sister organization and is adjacent to DPC campus.

Accommodation facilities

DPC provides hostel facility for students who apply for it. It is close to the College and has well-furnished bedrooms, dining room, study room and all the required facilities. Besides these facilities, internet connection is available in each room to aid them in preparing their notes and seminars. On each floor of the hostel there is a provision for praying and a gymnasium club. Students can obtain advice on accommodation from the hostel Supervisor.

Health care facilities

The College arranges to provide health care facilities to students living in the hostels. DPC has a contract for health care with its sister organization Dubai Specialized Medical Centre and Research Labs . DMC doctors do periodical checkup for all the students. Those found ill are taken care of by them. In severe cases the hostel authorities send the resident students to Dubai Government hospitals.

Student counseling services

Students who experience personal, emotional and social difficulties and may need counseling or support. DPC provides students with counseling services through a trained student counselor who helps them to cope up with a wide variety of student matters.

Transporation facilities

DPC has special minibuses for transporting students from Sharjah, Ajman, Dubai and hostel. These buses are fully air-conditioned and quite comfortable. They are used for field trips and educational tours too.

Mosques

The College has mosques inside its campus for faculty, staff and female students which sustains the Islamic atmosphere in the College.

Dining services

Cafeteria adjoining the College is spacious and hygienic. It offers food and beverages of students' choice. Thus it's a rendezvous for students to relax and enjoy during breaks.

Recreational facilities

In the campus there is a swimming pool, basketball court and gymnasium club. These facilities help the students in maintaining proper physical fitness.

Bookshop

There is a bookshop in the College which sells textbooks at subsidized rates of various subjects taught in the College. The bookshop also provides services on photocopying at a minimal charge.

Community Engagement

The college forms a Special Interest Group (SIG) of likeminded people initiating community engagement which would include student representatives, faculty members, Audentia, research and student affairs lead by a community engagement head, thereby, planning its activities according to its specific specialization and interests.    At the beginning of the Fall semester, the Cluster Groups/ Special Interest Group prepares a plan of all activities to be carried out and events in which to participate. Need based approach is kept in view while preparing the plan and help execute the plan in the best possible manner. Although the plan includes all intended activities, a level of flexibility is maintained to accommodate fresh ideas from the DPC’s students, faculty and staff as well as the wider community. Throughout the semester the plan is monitored to identify the areas of strength and ideas for future improvement.    When selecting events and setting the DPC plan, the SIG considers activities that contribute directly to the community identifying the impending needs of the community and to meet them.

Student Union

There is a Student Union consisting of members from student community elected from all years of B. Pharm. The elections are held regularly at the beginning of each academic year.

Student Union serves as the principal student programming organization at DPC. The Student Union is responsible for providing a balanced programme of social, religious, recreational, and cultural activities for the College aiming to make free time activity a co-operative facet with study. The Student's Union helps also to maintain close links between the College administration, staff, and the students, links which are essential for efficient functioning of the College.

  • Administration of the College should undertake issuing of the decision about the formation of a Student Union Election Committee in a certain time period, which should be within two weeks from the beginning of the new academic year. 
  • This Election Committee should hold free and fair elections to select the Union Board and all other office bearers. 
  • Each student of the College has the right to nominate herself for only one position in the Union Board. 
  • After casting of the votes by the students, the counting of the votes should be done publicly and the invalid votes should be cancelled. 
  • The results of the election are announced on the same day of the election.
  • The Union positions could be occupied uncontested. 
  • The proportional representation of the College students, in the Union should be taken into consideration. 
  • The period of the elected Student Union Board is only one academic year.

Working rules for Student Union Board

1. The Student Union Board should have the following members:

  • President.
  • Vice-President.
  • Secretary General.
  • Heads of College Clubs (Science Club-Drama Club-Writing Club-Book Club-Art Club-Media Club-Ehsaan:Charity Club)

2. The meetings of the Union Board are held minimum two times in each academic year according to the President’s request and this is done by the co-ordination of Secretary General or according to the request of the one third of the Board Members.

3. During the meeting the duties of each Board Member should be discussed and all suggestions, recommendations and decisions of the Board should be written and published.

4. In each meeting the Board Members should review the execution of the decisions taken in previous meetings.

5. The Union Board approves and allocates specified fund for different Union activities and forward it to the College administration for its provision.

Responsibilities of the Student Union Board Members

 

1) President
    The responsibilities of the President are: 

  • To direct the meetings of the Student Union Board. 
  • To allocate the duties of the Board members and to call for the meeting of the Board in collaboration with the Secretary General. 
  • To undertake the execution of the Union Board decisions in cooperation with the Secretary General. 
  • To undertake the payment of bills for expenditure in conducting Union activities from the approved fund in co-operation with the Treasurer.

 

2) Vice-President
    The responsibilities of the Vice-President are: 

  • To substitute for the President in her absence. 
  • To assist the President in her work.

   

3) Secretary General
    The responsibilities of the Secretary General are: 

  • To appoint Incharge for different Union Committees. 
  • To co-ordinate with the activities of different Union Committees. 
  • To implement the suggestions given by the students to activate the Union Committees. 
  • To be responsible for execution of all the decisions of the Union Board. 
  • To organize and co-ordinate the activities between the two Colleges (DMCG and DPC). 
  • To keep all the documents of the Union Board and be responsible for writing and distribution of the minutes of the Union Board and Union Committee meetings.

Incharge Activities Committee
The responsibilities are: 

  • To arrange scientific functions, symposiums and seminars in the College. 
  • To arrange scientific quiz, competitions and meetings in between the students of both Colleges (DMCG and DPC).
 

4) Various College Clubs for Students


i. In-charge, Science Club

   The responsibilities are: 
  • To arrange scientific functions, symposiums and seminars in the College.
  • To arrange scientific quiz, competitions and meetings in between the students of both Colleges (DMCG and DPC).
  • To encourage scientific related events promoting health awareness like sports day, health day etc.
  • To encourage the members in the field of science and improve their abilities in experimental pharmaceutical work.

ii. In-charge, Drama Club

   The responsibilities are: 
  • To encourage active participation of all members in showcase their talents.
  • To improve knowledge in other fields other than pharmacy.

iii. In-charge, Writing Club

   The responsibilities are: 
  • To improve writing skills of students and organize literature related events in Arabic and English.
  • To initiate debates among members.

iv. In-charge, Book Club

   The responsibilities are: 
  • To encourage all members to increase knowledge by inculcating a habit of reading.
  • To improve knowledge in other fields other than pharmacy.

iv. In-charge, Art Club

   The responsibilities are: 
  • To encourage all members participate in talent shows organized in the college.
  • To organize events held in the college.
  • To prepare brochures, notices and posters for highlighting different activities in the College.
  • To publish articles for wall magazine and College magazine giving all information about Union activities.

iv. In-charge, Media Club

   The responsibilities are: 
  • To prepare along with the Art club brochures, notices and posters for highlighting different activities in the College.
  • To publish all activities on the college social media giving all information about Union activities.
  • To interact with other Colleges and exchange information with them.
  • To make propaganda about the College status by writing in newspapers and magazines published in Dubai and U.A.E.

iv. In-charge, Ehsaan Club

    The responsibilities are: 
  • To arrange all religious and cultural functions in the College.
  • Implant the love of Islam and Sunnah among students.
  • Arrange theme based days in the college like Arabic Day, Laborers Day etc.

Fitness Center

In the campus there is a swimming pool, basketball ground and gymnasium club for the students. These facilities help the students in maintaining proper physical fitness under the guidance of well trained staff on days allocated for girls only.

Transportation

DPC has special minibuses for transportation of the students from their residence in Sharjah, Ajman, Dubai and Hostel to the College and back to their respective destinations. These buses are fully air-conditioned and quite comfortable.

The buses are controlled by an Incharge who is responsible for providing the transport when needed by the students of the College and hostel. The person Incharge at present is Mr. Haroon Ahmad, whose contact number is 050-4563797.

Central Library

The Central Library, housed in DMCG adjacent to DPC offers an excellent environment for study. It is available to students at various stages of study. The library working hours are arranged as far as possible to meet students' need. The library has subscribed e -Journals in various areas of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences. The physical facilities in the library are adequate space is given for housing the collection of books, journals, and audiovisuals. There is also a large reading room to facilitate learning. Students have access to computer terminals to search on-line catalogs, databases, and other information systems. The library is also equipped with photocopying machines.

Refund Policy of Tuition Fees

Dubai Pharmacy College admits only a very limited number of students, so if any student after admission cancels her admission then this will create a vacancy which could have been used by another qualified student. Therefore the College authorities are strict in their action for such students and they will not refund the fees paid at the time of admission until and unless a valid reason is provided for cancellation of admission.

The valid reasons can be:-
1. If a candidate faces visa difficulties from U.A.E. govt. that are out of College Control.

2. If the guardian of the candidate faces sudden employment problems, such as termination, visa cancellation etc.

3. If a candidate is granted a scholarship provided that it occurs after the date of fee payment.

4. The refund usually is granted to student in first or second week after commencement of academic year to which they are admitted.

Refund Policy of Tuition Fees on Withdrawal:

  • In case of withdrawal before joining the college: 5%(applicable on tuition fees)
  • For every month of attendance in case of withdrawal after joining the college :Dhs 5000

M.Pharm Admission Requirements

Admission to the Graduate School is based on academic qualifications as shown in Table below. Program. . To be eligible for this exemption you must have completed your studies no more than two years prior to the start of the postgraduate degree program for which you are applying.

Entry eligibility Passing interview

Applications are initially reviewed by the college and applicant will be called for an interview. Final decisions rest with the college, which, after considering the recommendation of the department concerned, will notify the applicant of the decision.

Conditional Admission
  A student with a recognized baccalaureate degree with a grade point average below 3.00 on a 4.0 scale or its established equivalent may be admitted conditionally to the Masters program. Such a student must meet the following requirements during the period of conditional admission or be subject to dismissal:

  • may take a maximum of nine credit hours in the first semester of study
  • must achieve an overall grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale in the first nine credit hours for the Masters program

 

Transfer Admission
  Dubai Pharmacy College (DPC) accepts transfer of students from accredited College with a curriculum that is comparable to that offered at DPC. The transfer of students is not allowed after second semester. The following are the necessary conditions for transfer to the DPC from other pharmacy colleges:

  1. Students must meet the English language proficiency requirements such as minimum TOEFL score of (79 IBT) or 6.0 in IELTS.
  2. DPC requires applicants to submit their transcripts for evaluation of transferable subjects /teaching hours from previous college experiences. The student must provide a letter of application to the Dean of the College specifying reason(s) for requesting transfer and desired date of transfer.
  3. All applicants must provide conduct certificates from the Pharmacy College where they are currently enrolled. No student who has been dismissed from any Pharmacy College will be eligible for transfer to DPC.
  4. The student transferring from another accredited college must be in a good academic standing (CGPA of 3 on a scale of 4.0, or its equivalent) in BPharm.
  5. The student must have earned a grade of "B" or better in the course. No more than six credit hours of graduate work may be transferred from another institution. The courses must be graduate level and have been taken for graduate credit at the accredited institution.
  6. The final decision for approval of transfer will be made by the Dean after review of the transfer request.

 

Documents Required

The following documents should be submitted along with the application form.  The original certificates is to be brought in person by the applicant at the time of interview.

  • Attested BPharm degree.
  • Mark-sheet of the examination passed  
  • Six passport size color photographs.
  • Birth certificate.
  • Character certificate from the Head of the institution last attended.
  • Copy of the passport and resident visa (for expatriate students only).
  • Medical certificate.
  • Required result of TOEFL/ IELTS/any standardized exams as prescribed by the MoHESR (conditional admission, if not passing the acceptance score)
  • Copy of UAE National ID.
  • Statement of purpose (SOP)

 

Graduate Student Readmission: 
  Students returning from a Leave of Absence will need to fill out a readmission form available in theDean’s office.

Deadline for Readmission:
Readmission form must be submitted on or before the start of the term/semester.

Students returning from a Leave of Absence who have a tuition balance are subject to the rules regarding overdue tuition balances in place at that time. After one year, students will have to re-apply for admission.

Leave of Absence:

Students in good standing may request a Leave of Absence. A leave of absence allows a student to return to the same semester at any registration period for up to one year from the start of the leave without the necessity of re-applying but should fill in the Leave of Absence form. Students on scholarship who are in good academic standing will retain their award when returning to the College from a leave of absence not more than one year. The forms for readmission are available in the Dean’s office.

Add/Drop/Withdrawal from Courses
  As DPC strictly adheres to the time-table schedule, the graduate students cannot add or drop any regular courses allotted for each semester.

Withdrawal Policy
Up to the end of the 10th week of a semester, students may choose to withdraw from a course without academic penalty; however, a grade of W will appear on the student’s transcript. Students may officially withdraw from a course up to the end of the 10th week of the semester. After the 10th week, withdrawals are no longer permitted, except by special permission of the Dean. A withdrawal form must be signed by the Dean.Note: All withdrawals from course(s) after the fourth week of the term are noted with a grade "W" onthe transcript.

Transfer from other Colleges

The College also welcomes applications from candidates studying with other educational institutions in B.Pharm. course who wish to transfer to DPC.  It may be possible to grant exemption from earlier part of the degree course in recognition of a candidate’s success in her previous course of study.

The following are the necessary conditions for transfer to the DPC from other Pharmacy Colleges:

  • Dubai Pharmacy College (DPC) accepts transfer of students from accredited College with a curriculum that is comparable to that offered at DPC.
  • Students must meet the English language proficiency requirements such as minimum TOEFL score of  61 IBT or 5.0 in IELTS. 
  • The student must provide a letter of application to the Dean of the College specifying reason (s) for requesting transfer and desired date of transfer.
  • Dubai Pharmacy College requires applicants to submit their transcripts for evaluation of transferable subjects /teaching hours from previous College experiences.
  • No student who has been dismissed from any Pharmacy College will be eligible for transfer to DPC.
  • All applicants must provide conduct certificates from the Pharmacy College where they are currently enrolled.
  • All applicants should contact the Admissions Department to inquire about having their transcripts reviewed.
  • The student transferring from another accredited college must be in a good academic standing (a minimum CGPA of 2.0, C grade, on a 4.0 scale or equiavlent).
  • Student applying for transfer to DPC must study more than 60% of the syllabus of B. Pharm at DPC.
  • The final decision for approval of transfer will be made by the Dean after review of the transfer request by the Chief Academic Officer of the College.
  • Transfer of students is not allowed after second year.
  • Before considering any application for transfer, existence of an appropriate seat for the student should be considered.
  • Before attending Dubai Pharmacy College, attested records from the previous College and higher secondary school should be submitted to the Dean’s secretary.

Admission Rules for Diploma in Pharmacy & Science Graduates

Diploma in Pharmacy holders will be admitted in second year of B.Pharm, if they meet the following requirements:

  • She should have passed the qualifying examination viz. Higher Secondary/Intermediate/10+2/GCE-A level “12 Grade” or equivalent with science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics) from a school recognized by Ministry of Education, U.A.E. with not less than 70% marks in aggregate.
  • She should have passed Diploma in Pharmacy with a good academic standing (a minimum CGPA of 2.0, C grade, on a 4.0 scale or equivalent).
  • She should apply for admission to B.Pharm. course in DPC within five years after obtaining the Diploma in Pharmacy and also she should be working in the field related to Pharmacy.
  • Candidates should submit certificate in proof of having a good character and provide evidence for their emotional, social and academic maturity from the Head of the Institution last attended.
  • Evidence of proficiency in English language should also be provided.


Science graduates and graduates in Medicine, Health Sciences, Dentistry and Veterinary  Sciences can also be admitted to B. Pharm. course if they meet the following requirements:

  • She should have passed the qualifying examination viz. Higher Secondary/Intermediate/10+2/GCE-A level “12 Grade” or equivalent with science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics) from a school recognized by Ministry of Education, U.A.E. with not less than 80% marks in aggregate.

Final selection of candidates is on the basis of their performance in an interview conducted by the Dean and if accepted, first semester fees should be paid during the first week of acceptance to reserve a seat to start the B.Pharm. Program.

Admission Requirements

 

Academic Requirements: Applicants from a high school following the U.A.E. curriculum must have:

♦   The UAE High School Certificate – Science Stream (or equivalent) is required with an average score of 80% or more.

If you come from a high school following an International curriculum must have
  1. 12 years of school in Science Stream (or equivalent) with a minimum 80% or more.
  2. Equivalency certificate for a High School Certificate obtained abroad from UAE Ministry of Education.
Additional Requirements:
  1. Students of GCSE/IGCSE curriculum must have completed five subjects (Biology or Human Biology, Chemistry, English Language, Mathematics or additional Mathematics or Statistics, and Physics) at the ordinary level with at least 2 B’s and 3 C’s grades, plus two subjects (Biology and Chemistry) at the GCE Advanced Subsidiary or Advanced level with at least 1 B and 1 C grade.
  2. Students of International Baccalaureate Diploma must have completed six subjects with three at the standard level and three at the higher level with minimum 30 diploma points (equivalent grade of 80%) fulfilling following mandatory courses
  3. Standard or Higher level Math
  4. Standard or Higher level Biology
  5. Standard or Higher level Chemistry


English Language Proficiency Requirement:

An applicant is required to fulfill any one of the following requirements for admission:

Conditional Admission

Students who qualify for conditional admission will have to sign a note of undertaking of conditional admission that specifies the conditions that she must meet the minimum English Language Proficiency by the end of first semester. Incase of not achieving the required score she will be turned out of the College.

Note: Conditional admission means that students are limited to enrolling in 15 credit hours for the first semester and cannot continue without the required minimum score as set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAE.

PPD901 INSTRUMENTAL ANALYSIS OF DRUGS AND DRUG PRODUCTS (3+1 CH, First Semester)

This course prepares the students with knowledge and skills required in analysis of drugs and formulations through commonly employed techniques, UV – Visible spectroscopy; Florescence and phosphorescence spectrometry; High performance liquid chromatography; Infrared spectroscopy; Thermal methods of analysis; X-ray diffraction, particle size determination using Laser diffraction, determination of zeta potential using zeta-sizer, in pharmaceutical industries. The theory and practical of the instrumental methods is supported by analytical method validation, proper interpretation of analytical data and mathematical techniques for preparing standards and samples.

PPD902 PRINCIPLES OF PHARMACOKINETICS & DRUG DELIVERY DISPOSITION (2 CH, First Semester)

This course provides knowledge and understanding of biopharmaceutical and pharmacokinetic considerations in safe and effective pharmaceutical product development. The course emphasizes the impact of the physiological factors, pharmacokinetic parameters and physicochemical properties on drug pharmacokinetics and bioavailability. Students are also exposed to the concepts and procedures related drug diffusion and dissolution, in-vitro in-vivo correlations, biopharmaceutical classification system and biowaivers.

PPD903 DOSAGE FORM DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY (2+1, First Semester)

This course covers basics and recent developments in pharmaceutical dosage forms, specifically, designing, manufacturing, and evaluations of solid dosage forms, parenteral dosage forms, liquids, and semisolids. The Lab component of this course is designed to provide extensive practical exposure in development & evaluation of such dosage forms.

PPD904 PHARMACEUTICAL QUALITY CONTROL & ASSURANCE (3 CH, Second Semester)

This course mainly deals with the quality and regulatory aspects involved in pharmaceutical product development. It mainly describes concepts related to quality assurance, quality control and good manufacturing practice. During the course, students are also provided with the exposure to quality assurance and quality control department of the pharmaceutical industry.

PPD905 ADVANCE DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEMS (3+1 CH, Second Semester)

This course covers recent developments in drug delivery systems including transdermal drug delivery systems, mucosal drug delivery systems (buccal, nasal, ocular, rectal and vaginal routes of administration),  site-specific and targeted drug delivery systems with respect to their designing, manufacturing, and evaluations of, in addition to. This course also provides extensive practical exposure in development & evaluation of such delivery systems.

This course prepares the students with latest knowledge of pharmaceutical product development process starting from most appropriate excipient selection, Preformulation studies, packaging development and finally scale up issues. PPD907: BIOTECHNOLOGY BASED PRODUCTS (2 CH, Second Semester)

This course is designed to provide latest knowledge about different biotechnological processes involved in development of therapeutic proteins, peptides and gene products. This course also discusses various issues related to development of stable biotechnological products and delivery considerations of these products in human.

PPD908: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND BIOSTATISTICS (3 CH, Third Semester)
Course Coordinator: Prof. Aliasgar Shahiwala

This course expose the students to a systematic process of identifying the research problems; defining the problems; identifying the variables/ indicators to address these problems; collecting, compiling, processing and analyzing data using various statistical methods; tools to assess the fundamental characteristics of the topics under study; and preparation of the report or presentation of results-formal write ups of conclusions reached. The course maximizes the use of self-directed studies by making use of assignments, presentations and statistical software using skills.

PPD909: DRUG REGULATORY AFFAIRS (2CH, Third Semester)

In this course students will acquire or further develop knowledge relating to the Regulatory Affairs in a Pharmaceutical industry, as a profession which acts as the interface between the pharmaceutical industry and Drug Regulatory authorities across the world.

PPD910: SEMINARS/JOURNAL CLUB (1 CH, Third Semester)
Course Coordinator: Prof. Aliasgar Shahiwala

Seminars/Journal Club exercises expose the student to systemic review of published literature in selected topics related to pharmaceuticals. Presentations during the course foster communication skills, presentation skills and IT skills. Through the questions & answers and peer evaluation, students would be able to identify the need of their own self development.

PPD-RP: RESEARCH PROJECT & DISSERTATION (Third Semester (2CH) & Fourth Semester  (8 CH))
This is one year long research project during second year in the field of pharmaceutical product development to be conducted under the supervision of DPC faculty. Each student is responsible for developing and performing their own research project. Students develop technical writing and oral presentation skills by writing a final report on their project, and by defending their work in a final presentation before experts.

CP901: CLINICAL PHARMACY PRACTICE (2 CH, First Semester)
Course Coordinator: Prof. Mirza Baig

This course introduces to the concepts of what is required from a pharmacist in relation to interpersonal skills and asks the student to reflect upon the pharmacist’s responsibility to care for patients and to respect patients’ needs and beliefs. Legal and ethical issues are also discussed; prescriptions interpreted and clinical checks made, while highlighting the need for continual professional development. Government interventions, wider public health issues, and the awareness of guidelines are also studied to reflect the changes which occur in drug development and disease management.

CP906: CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY-I (2 CH, Second Semester)

The course covers the advanced understanding of various Special aspects topics which deals with Immunosuppressive Agents, clinical uses of Immunosuppressive Drugs, Immunologic Reactions to Drugs & Drug Allergy. Diagnosis and staging of cancer is also covered with a special aspects on cancer chemotherapy. This course also includes study of advanced concepts in prenatal, pediatric and geriatric pharmacology. During the course, students will learn to make selected clinical decisions regarding using current, reliable sources of information, understanding of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, developmental physiologic considerations, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of drugs and the management of poisoned patients.

 

CP905: CLINICAL RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND BIOSTATISTICS (2 CH, Second Semester)
Course Coordinator: Prof.Mirza Baig

This course is the integration of epidemiological and biostatistical techniques with an emphasis on applications to clinical research (including study design, bias and confounding, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, sample size calculations, and introduction to parametric and nonparametric test). Students will gain practical skills in developing a research project and in carrying out data analyses.

 

Clinical Clerkships (14 CH, Third & Fourth Semester)
Clinical clerkship is for 14 weeks each during third and fourth semester, during which students will be assigned primarily to clinical rotations in different hospital departments of Dubai Health Authority approved facilities. Each student’s experience will include total four weeks each on Internal medicine, Infectious diseases, Pediatric care, Intensive Care, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and a two week blocks on two of the following Selection:

 

•    Psychiatry
•    Drug Information Service
•    Therapeutic Drug Monitoring
•    Total Parenteral Nutrition

Research Project & Dissertation (6 CH, Third (3CH) & Fourth (3CH) Semester)
This is one year long hospital based research project conducted by the students under the supervision of DPC faculty. B.Pharm Professional Practice Experience

Introduction
The aim of this procedure is to make sure that the students of DPC get adequate experience in various pharmacy practice settings such as, Community Pharmacies, Pharmaceutical Industries and Hospitals, in order to achieve mission of the College.

Professional Practice Experience (PPE) in pharmacy education is rapidly gaining recognition as it enriches undergraduate curriculum and bridges theory to application.

This procedure applies to all the fourth year students, Student's Professional Practice Experience Unit, comprising of a Head, Members, Administrative Staff and the Staff in Community, Pharmaceutical Industry and various Hospitals who are responsible for the implementation of this procedure.

Definitions

PPE001:

Introductory Professional Practice Experience in Community for 200 hours during summer vacations in second and third year of B.Pharm.

PPE002:

Professional Practice Experience in Pharmaceutical Industry for 100 hours during fourth year of B. Pharm.

PPE003:

Professional Practice Experience in Hospitals for 600 hours during fourth year of B. Pharm.

Logbook:

Supplied by the College to the students, which is an instructional manual with queries regarding Professional Practice Experience in different pharmacy practice settings.

Professional Practice Experience in Hospitals for 600 hours during fourth year of B. Pharm.

Process:

As the pharmacy profession has moved from the traditional product to patient orientation, curricula within the schools and colleges of pharmacy have evolved to introduce more experiential course work to foster this patient orientation. This change has been supported by the philosophy of pharmaceutical care that encourages pharmacists to assume a patient advocacy role in optimizing a patient's drug therapy while minimizing the adverse effects of the medication.
The role of experiential education is to hasten and enhance the development of the student's ability to provide pharmaceutical care.
Professional  Practice Experience, being an integral part of DPC education program, has been  given more emphasis to improve its implementation  in the present curriculum and the number of  hours have been rescheduled  to 900 to be distributed as follows:
  1. Professional Practice Experience (PPE 001) in Community Pharmacy for not less than 200 hrs.
  2. Professional  Practice Experience (PPE 002) in   Pharmaceutical Industry for not less  than 100hrs (2 credit hours)
  3. Professional Practice Experience (PPE 003) in Hospitals for not less than 600hrs (12 credit hours).


Professional Practice Experience Test (PPET)


After the  completion of PPE, students will be evaluated with structured evaluation  checklists and oral examinations for PPE 01 and PPE 03, and written test for  PPE 02 in coordination with the training staffs. It will be useful to assess  their knowledge and training outcomes taking into consideration the  accomplishment of output of the training goals.

Evaluation of PPE
At the end of each of  PPE001, PPE002 & PPE003 the students must answer a questionnaire. College  Supervisor will collect these questionnaires and co-ordinate the results. The  results of this study will be discussed in the College Academic Council Meeting  and the Advisory Committee for any improvements in Professional Practice in  Community, Hospitals and Pharmaceutical Industry, if considered necessary.

Logbooks
  • Each student will be provided with a Logbook at the start of each PPE.
  • The main objective of the Logbook is to achieve the goals of PPE. 
  • Logbook is a manual designed by Dubai Pharmacy College, which is to be filled by the student during Professional Practice. 
  • Every Student should have her own "Log Book" to write down daily activities, during the PPE. 
  • College Supervisor will provide the student with the procedure for filling the Logbook. 
  • The student should submit the Logbook to the College supervisor at the end of her Professional Practice.

Student's Responsibility:
The student must be informed before each PPE about her responsibilities which are as follows:  

  1. She must exhibit a professional appearance in manner and dress and adhere at all times to the standards of dress behavior. 
  2. She must wear her name badge at all time during PPE. 
  3. She must regard all information and activities relating to the pharmacy, the medical community and customers to be confidential and, under no circumstances will such knowledge be revealed to anyone. 
  4. She must keep in mind that the primary aim of PPE is learning. Learning is not a passive process, but requires a continuous, active commitment. 
  5. She should recognize that the best learning environment is one that fosters mutual respect and courtesy between the trainee and preceptor. 
  6. She should never question the advice or directions of the preceptor in public, personnel, but rather accept it as a means of learning.  
  7. She should never be hesitant to admit that something is not known to her and should seek help whenever needed. 
  8. She should be aware of all laws and rules which govern her practice, and should seek clarification of any points which are not clear.  
  9. If she is regularly asked to violate laws or has knowledge that the pharmacy where she is employed violates such laws, she should immediately report and ask for change of PPE site or the preceptor. She shall report within five days after the end of each PPE to PPE Coordinator.

I) Professional Practice Experience in Community Pharmacy (Introductory PPE 001)

It is taken by the students in one or more Community Pharmacies selected by PPE coordinator during yearly summer vacations in the second and third years of B. Pharm. under course heading PPE001.

Introductory practice experiences are intended to introduce the student to pharmaceutical care. Service learning and shadowing are two types of experiences that accomplish this goal.

Service learning allows students to participate in service projects that meet the needs of the community, foster a sense of caring for others, and lead to student learning through communication and professionalism. Therefore, there are reciprocal benefits for both the community and pharmacy students. The development of caring relationships during service learning prepares students for establishing conventional patient caring relationships.

Shadowing, another type of introductory practice experience, involves the student in observing practitioners conducting pharmaceutical services in the community pharmacy.

Regular  visits, at least once, will be done by the faculty member of DPC to monitor the  students training and have discussions with preceptors and students

Supervision of PPE001
Introductory  PPE is carried out under the supervision of the College supervisor  (Member of Student Professional Practice  Experience Unit) and a preceptor at PPE site who plays positive role model for  students and who possess the following characteristics.


Preceptor's characteristics

The Preceptor or the Pharmacist should:

  1. Have minimum of one  year of professional experience.
  2. Be involved in  professional organizations.
  3. Be competent in the  area of practice.
  4. Take personal  responsibility for patient outcomes.
  5. Utilize clinical  and scientific knowledge in clinical care decision – making.
  6. Demonstrate the  ability of having latest scientific knowledge in Pharmaceutical field.
  7. Demonstrate a  desire and an aptitude for teaching.
  8. Demonstrate the  ability to assess and document student performance.
  9. Practice continuous  professional development and collaborate with other healthcare professionals as  a member of a team.
  10. Demonstrate a  commitment to his/ her organization, professional society and community.


Role of Preceptor

  1. To train the students as per the objectives of PPE.
  2. To evaluate students for their performance during PPE in  developing and demonstrating the explicit skills mentioned for each PPE.
  3. To ensure the recording of all data in the log book.
  4. To supply the College supervisor a certificate indicating PPE  completion of the student in the pharmacy.
  5. To report to the College  supervisor after completion of PPE.


Steps for Introductory PPE 001

  1. PPE co-ordinator asks all students to suggest at least two community pharmacies of their choice with the name and qualification of the pharmacists working in these pharmacies. 
  2. The coordinator collects all the students before PPE and gives them the Log Book. 
  3. PPE coordinator explains the objectives of PPE001 and student's responsibility during PPE and also provide information to each student about the selected preceptor. 
  4. Each student receives a letter signed by PPE001 coordinator and the Dean for the preceptor which has the starting date and completion date of PPE.  
  5. After completion of PPE001 the Coordinator receives Preceptor's reports and Evaluation sheets and send them to Evaluation and Examination Unit.

      Each student will be provided with a Logbook at the start of each PPE.
      The main objective of the Logbook is to achieve the goals of PPE.
      Logbook is a manual designed by Dubai Pharmacy College, which is to be filled by the student during Professional Practice.
      Every Student should have her own "Log Book" to write down daily activities, during the PPE.
      College Supervisor will provide the student with the procedure for filling the Logbook.
      The student should submit the Logbook to the College supervisor at the end of her  Professional Practice.
     


II) Professional Practice Experience in Pharmaceutical Industry (PPE 002)

It is taken by the students during the second semester of B. Pharm. 4th year in Drug manufacturing industries of U.A.E., which should meet the following requirements:
  1. Should apply GMP. 
  2. Should have manufacturing capacity of all types of pharmaceutical products, a well-developed R & D. section, a good Quality Control department and well-arranged storage facilities. 
  3. Should have a licensed MOH Pharmacist in Production and Quality Control department. 
  4. Should be functional and operative.

LO1 Identify the design and set up of a Pharmaceutical Industry.
LO2 Identify the design and set up of a Pharmaceutical Industry.
LO3 Identify basics in Good Manufacturing Practice.
LO4 Organize purchase and analysis of the raw materials used in the  manufacturing of different pharmaceutical products.
LO5 Show experience in various Production Units involved in the manufacturing of solid, liquid, semisolid, and sterile dosage forms, etc.
LO6 Identify the packaging and storage of manufactured pharmaceutical  products.
LO7 Show knowledge about quality control, quality assurance and validation  of manufactured pharmaceutical products.

Supervisors for Professional Practice in Pharmaceutical Industry
Professional Practice in the Pharmaceutical Industry is monitored under supervision of:

  1. College  Supervisor: one of  the members of Students Professional Practice Experience Unit.
  2. Industry Supervisor: in the drug manufacturing  industry.


Responsibilities of Industrial PPE Supervisors

a. College Supervisor

To prepare a list of students eligible for Professional Practice.
To send the list of students to the Industry Supervisor.
To co-ordinate with the Industry Supervisor for:
  1. Student’s transportation from  College and hostels to Industry and back.
  2. Monitoring the Professional Practice  program.
  3. Solving any problem hindering proper  Professional Practice.
To  prepare a monthly report about Professional Practice of students for review by  the College Academic Council.
To  evaluate students PPE depending on professional reports supplied by them.

b. Industry Supervisor:

To receive a list of students sponsored for Professional Practice.
Send a list of enrolled students to the College Supervisor.
To prepare a Professional Practice program meeting the following requirements,

  1. To identify the Units in the Industry where Professional Practice will take place as per the prescribed schedule
  2. To identify the person responsible for marking the attendance of students during Professional Practice.
  3. To determine the mode of Professional Practice and appoint the person responsible for monitoring the program.
  4. Fulfillment of 100 hours Professional Practice in the Industry.
  5. To give each student a copy of Professional Practice program.
To submit a report to the College Supervisor about the students' attendance.
To submit a report on students assessment to the College Supervisor at the end of Professional Practice in Pharmaceutical Industry.

III) Professional Practice in Hospitals (Advanced PPE 003)

It is taken by students in 2nd semester of B.Pharm. 4th year and under course heading PPE003. Hospital training is taken in different hospitals of Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and primary health care centers. The hospitals are selected by the PPE Coordinator and it should meet the following requirements:

  1. Ministry of Health, U.A.E. or, Dubai should have approved the hospital.
  2. Pharmacy in the hospital should also be approved by Ministry of Health and Department of Health.
  3. The hospital pharmacy should have at least five licensed (MOH / DOHMS) pharmacists under its employment.
  4. All activities related to patients, drugs and dispensing in the pharmacy must be computerized.

Learning Outcomes of Advance Professional Practice Experience (PPE003)

LO1 Identify basic steps of proper outpatient, inpatient care and proper medication processing according to current standards of care unique to hospitals and health care systems.

Student activities during the round

Review patient medication therapy regularly before rounds in terms of indication, dosage, route, duration, efficacy and toxicity.
Obtain information to update and correct the medication profile.
Formulate and documents a list of problems for new or existing patients seen by the service. The list should focus on disease, drug, or socioeconomic factors.
Attend work rounds on a consistent basis and communicate to other on rounds the following information:

  1. Patient's current medication use.
  2. Observed subjective or objective signs of efficacy or toxicity.
  3. Drug distribution problems (non-formulary status or medication not ordered for a newly admitted patient)
  4. Prospective therapeutic management plans for patient problems (i.e., change of therapy, discontinuance of medication, change of pain medication, use of prophylactic antibiotics, and identification of therapeutic alternatives).
Attend work rounds and gather the following information:
  1. Subjective and objective data for monitoring a patient's medication therapy.
  2. Changes in patient status (condition improved or worsened), discharge date, surgery, diagnostic procedures and results of procedures.
  3. Changes in nondrug therapy (i.e., dietary changes, socioeconomic conditions, or physical therapy.
  4. Patient's understanding of medication, name strength and expected benefits and toxicities.
  5. Projected discharge needs including any special counseling.
Communicate developments to the unit pharmacist if he or she is unable to attend all or part of rounds.
At the end of the day, the students and their supervisors can have a lecture regarding the cases they faced during the daily round to discuss any modification or to clarify any doubt.


Evaluation of student's performance:
Preceptor  from Dubai Pharmacy College (DPC) will be guiding the students throughout their  training. Weekly visit will be done by the faculty member of DPC to monitor the  students training and have discussions with preceptors and students separately.  During a rotation, the preceptor will assess the student's performance and  provide feedback about the strengths and areas for improvement. The preceptors  will make these assessments using evaluation forms and performance criteria  that are based on goals and objectives out lined in the rotation syllabus or  manual. Therefore, before the rotation begins, the preceptor and the student  should meet and review the rotation goals and objectives, students’ performance  expectations and criteria to measure performance.

The  rotation goals and objectives are statements that communicate the level of  performance and activity of the students which are expected from them to  demonstrate. Typically, rotation goals and objectives communicate that the  students is expected to provide patient care successfully in the clinical  setting.

This figure describes four levels of ability that a student must achieve  to provide patient care. The lowest level of this triangle is "knows"  this tier infers that a student can recall knowledge gained during classroom  courses and the rotations. Goals and objectives describing this level will be  statement such as "The student can describe symptoms, pathophysiology,  laboratory tests, physical examination, prognosis and diagnosis of acute and  chronic diseases. The other verbs that could be used in this statement to  describe how to use the knowledge gained during class rooms

Course Assessment

Each course is assessed as outlined in the course description form and can be further discussed with the course coordinator.
The College will follow mainly two basic measures to assess student's learning such as formative and summative which includes,

Computation of the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and Grade Point Average (GPA) 


  • The GPA is calculated by multiplying the grade of each course by the number of its credit hours and dividing the total by the number of total credit hours taken in a semester.

Incomplete Grades

  1. A student who is unable to attend the final exam of any course because of extenuating circumstances such as serious illness, accident or death of a family member during the final examination period seeks an incomplete grade "I" for the course.  
  2. Grade "I" is granted to the student if the average marks of the course work is not less than 60%.
  3. Requests for an "I" grade is made on a form available from Dean's office  
  4. Unless otherwise stated on the form, the work required to remove an "I" grade is to be completed no later than the end of the second week of the next semester in which the student registers at the university, otherwise a grade of "F" is recorded.  
  5. (For Credit System students only) after the two week add/drop period, and up to the end of the 10th week of a semester, students may choose to withdraw from a course without academic penalty; however, a grade of "W" will appear on the student's transcript.

This course describes the medicinal chemistry of drugs affecting cardiovascular system (cardiac glycosides, antiagnial, antiarrythmic and antilipidemic agents, anticoagulants, antiplatelets, and diuretics). This course also describes opioid analgesic, antitussive, non steroidal anti-inflammatory agents and drugs affecting immune systems as antihistamines and antiulcer agents. In this course student will gain knowledge about the physicochemical/stereochemical /pharmacokinetics properties of drugs and their structure activity relationship. Students will also gain knowledge and skills about drug designing, synthesis and analysis of different classes of medicinal agents.
Pharmacology and Therapeutics- ICourse Code:PT702 Credit Hours:3+1 Domain: PS
The course first deals with the principles of the common cardiovascular diseases describing the causes of hypertension, the major determinants which control coronary blood flow, and the most likely etiology of heart failure.
Then, the course provides the clinical characteristics (mechanism of action, benefits, adverse effects, interactions, and contraindications) of beta blockers, diuretics, vasodilators, calcium channel blockers, nitrates, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, cardiac glycosides and antiarrhythmics.
Finally, the therapeutic benefits of medications, the management guidelines, treatment algorithms, and patient educations of the studied disorders are fully covered. The course will be taught concurrently with Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry-II course to offer the maximum benefit of integrated knowledge.

Phytochemistry course introduces the pharmacy students to the concept of the drugs derived from natural resources according to their biosynthetic origin as well to impart an understanding of natural product structures and the way they are put together in living organisms.

Dubai Pharmacy College accepts only female students with General Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent with science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Mathematics) for admission to Bachelor of Pharmacy degree program.

Dubai Pharmacy College grants its students, after successful completion, Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (B. Pharm.). The total program of Dubai Pharmacy College extends over four academic years and the maximum course duration to complete the degree within a reasonable time frame of six years.
 The academic year starts in September and ends in the third week of July.

     
  • Each academic year is divided into semesters.
  • Each semester is composed of twenty two weeks of which 15 weeks devoted to teaching
  • Each week has five teaching days which accounts for 30 teaching hours in a week.

Annual vacations are of two weeks at the end of first semester and five weeks at the end of second semester.

At Dubai Pharmacy College, our aim is to produce good professional pharmacists and we seek the co-operation of parents in achieving this goal. The infrastructure, amenities are of top class and the Islamic and academic atmosphere is congenial for learning.

  • Do keep in regular touch with the Faculty Advisor of your daughter.     
  • Be aware of your daughter’s Academic Progress especially attendance, internal assessment and marks in the College examinations. 
  • Remit all the Payments like tuition fees, hostel facility fee directly to DPC n time.
  • Be aware of your daughter’s Monthly Expenditure and mode of expenditure. 
  • We may need to Contact You sometimes Urgently especially in case of emergency. Hence it is essential that any change in address, phone numbers and e-mail be informed promptly to the College. 
  • Report or warning will be sent to your e-mail.
  • Do not encourage your daughter to extend their holiday and stay at home when she visits the family during vacation. She may end up with attendance shortage.
  • Please keep us informed, if the student has a History of Illness.
  • In case of Health Problems for minor illness, the students can attend our Dubai Medical Centre which is situated in the campus and get treated. If the ill-health warrants inpatient care, the student will be admitted. For minor ailments with short stay the parents may not be informed, but in case of emergencies, they will be informed as early as possible.
  • Provide Medical Certificate, in the case of illness, or Leave Note duly signed by you, in the case of emergency situations.
  • It is imperative that parents keep in regular touch with the institution officials especially in case of Poor Academic Performers

Institutional Goals & Objectives

Goal # 1: Maximize a campus culture in which all students can achieve their potential based on Islamic morals and principles, helping them develop understanding, skills, attitudes, and values essential for success in life and become responsible citizens.
 
Goal #2: Impart an advanced, intensive and comprehensive curriculum based on international professional standards that emphasize on professional practice experience. Promote critical knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to begin a managed care pharmacy career in pharmacy, industry, hospitals and other health care systems.
 
Goal # 3: Ensure optimum use of well – equipped classrooms, library, laboratories and IT facilities to impart personalized, self-learning and problem-solving instruction delivery
 
Goal # 4: Foster a safe environment for the faculty and students that is conducive to research and scholarly activities.
 
Goal #5: Comply with International Standards in Examination System
 
Goal # 6: Maintain a lifelong relationship with alumni through opportunities that promote interaction and involvement with the College for the benefit of the community.

7.1. Coordinate functions of all units helping them to set goals and objectives in alignment with the institutional goals.
7.2. Identify clear and measurable outcomes tied to the goals and objectives for the Units.

3.9. Maintain a balanced and organized collection of high-quality materials supporting programs offered and provide professional assistance to all its users

Goal 2 :


Program Review & Assessment Committee

2.1. Review the present day undergraduate /graduate Pharmacy Education trends.
2.2. Determine changes to textbooks or learning resources; changes to prerequisites; changes to course codes or titles as long as the content of the course is accurately reflected; addition of new elective courses; and changes to assessment procedure thus providing future directions for Pharmacy education in the UAE.
2.3. Establishes guidelines for comprehensive program review for academic and administrative units and provides guidance for student outcomes assessment throughout the institution.
2.4. Provides a forum for the exchange of program review and assessment information and strategies among graduate and undergraduate programs and administrative units (Faculty Learning Communities)
2.5. Prepares program assessment plans and reports that may be required by the External Reviewers.
2.6. Ensures DPC curriculum is up-to-date and matches with QFEmiratesLevel descriptors and other professional bodies’ requirements and reflect sustained attention.

        2.7.3. Assess student intern’s performance systematically based on ILO.
2.8. Expose student interns to current standard facilities of drug manufacturing and quality control systems.
        2.8.1. Strengthen the level of student interns training in pharmaceutical industry
        2.8.2. Evaluate students’ feedback about training in pharmaceutical industry
        2.8.3. Assess student intern’s performance systematically based on.
2.9. Expose student interns to current standards of care and policy driven pharmacy practice unique to hospitals and health-systems.
        2.9.1. Strengthen the level of student interns training in government hospitals and other health care systems.
        2.9.2. Evaluate students’ feedback about training in different health care systems
        2.9.3. Assess student intern’s performance systematically based on preceptors report.
2.10. Provide student interns with the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally, through interaction with health care professionals, presentation and advancement in oral and written skills.
       2.10.1. Participate in seminar of career fair to be organized for the student intern’s in   conjunction with Career guidance unit.
      2.10.2. Participate in conferences of health care systems in UAE or abroad.

Student Advisory Committee

1.8. Impart and coordinate among the mentors in Student Advising to track students’ progress.


Community Engagement

1.9. Sustain the need to recognize community engagement
1.10. Expand our commitment to faculty and student involvement towards community engagement through the process of encouraging cluster groups and developing partnership of the Community
1.11. Provide equal opportunities for all DPC members to understand and articulate the importance of giving back to the community as an engaged citizen.
 1.12. Participate in activities promoting environment protection and sustainability.
 1.13. Participate in health awareness programs like workshops, conferences, lectures, seminars etc.
 1.14. Spread community awareness in the neighborhoods and among students of different secondary schools and colleges other than DPC.

Faculty Board

The College Faculty Board looks after the day to day teaching, administrative and academic work of the College.

A College Faculty Board shall be constituted by the decision of the Chairman, Board of Trustees comprising the following:

(i)    The Dean of the College

(ii)     Chief Academic Officer (B.Pharm.)

(iii)    Graduate Program Director

(iv)    Heads of the Departments of the College

(v)    Head, Institutional Effectiveness Unit.

(vi)    Heads of Core Functional Units

The Dean is the Chairperson of the College Faculty Board. Dean is free to invite any person if he feels his presence necessary for College Faculty Board meeting. The Chief Academic Officer/ Graduate Program Director shall be responsible for inviting members for College Faculty Board meeting.

The College Faculty Board shall meet at least four times in an academic year or at the instance of its Chairman or on the request of the two thirds of its members.

The Advisory Board

The Board of Advisors is a select group of individuals who share in the mission of the Dubai Pharmacy College. Members of the Board are educators and leaders representing the diverse field of healthcare. They are dedicated to helping DPC develop and maintain a world-class pharmacy educational program and Professional Practice Experience (internship) in Pharmaceutical sciences.

It is an honor for me to welcome you to this institution; Dubai Pharmacy College (DPC), the first Pharmacy institute in the Gulf region which was established by the eminent philanthropist, Hajj Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Lootah in 1992. It was founded with a vision to educate girls of the Emirate to successfully and confidently meet the dynamic challenges in the healthcare in an Islamic ambience.

Endowed with the Dubai Appreciation Award in 2004, our college is accredited and licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAE since 1998 for the Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) program and Initial Accreditation since October 2013 for the Masters of Pharmacy (MPharm) program specializing in Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Product Development.

The college fosters technological innovation, development & research. Modern instructional lecture rooms and laboratories facilitates learning advanced courses. An international team of dedicated and committed faculty maintains the quality of instruction. Pharmatalk-open lecture series, Continuing Medical Education (CME), seminars and practical projects are periodically organized. Community Engagement programs and educational trips are always guided by faculty members. Visiting professors and academics are also invited from pivotal healthcare institutions, industries and hospitals.


Needless to say, we offer career driven-skills based curricula. Consequently, the aspiring pharmacists have to undergo intensive Professional Practice Experience (PPE) in leading Hospitals & Primary Healthcare Centers under Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Pharmaceutical Industries and in Community Pharmacies accordingly.
Uniquely positioned in the Lootah Educational Campus at Muhaisnah, Dubai, which is within easy access for students not only from Dubai but also from Sharjah and Ajman. For students from other countries the hostel is a boon. It is well-furnished with all the required facilities such as health club, tennis court, swimming pool, it’s just like a home away from home.

The College aims at preparing girls as Pharmacists and making them aware of their rights and   duties stipulated on moral issues based on Islamic ethics and values. I   am sure that most parents will be attracted towards such a specialized   institution to educate their daughters.

With this in view Dubai Pharmacy College was established in 1992 by the astute vision of Founder and Chairman , Haji Saeed Al Lootah. The first Pharmacy College in the Gulf region exclusively dedicated to educate aspiring Muslim girls in the field of pharmacy sciences, is accredited by the Commission of Academic Accreditation (CAA), Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAE.

Condolence
