Dubai Medical University - College of Pharmacy Students Mark World Antimicrobial Awareness Week

The Community Engagement Unit of Dubai Pharmacy College and the DPC-IVPN students club, in collaboration Aster Pharmacy, hosted an awareness event at Aster Pharmacy, Mirdif City Center. Themed "World Antimicrobial Awareness Week: Educate. Advocate. Act now," the event aimed to educate the public on rational use of antibiotics and proper hand hygiene. The event featured interactive activities to engage the community (i.e. customers of Aster Pharmacy, patients of the attached clinic), emphasizing the critical role individuals play in combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Volunteers shared essential information about antibiotics, including their appropriate use, common side effects, and the risks associated with misuse. Educational games, such as a crossword puzzle testing knowledge of antibiotics, added a fun and engaging element to the learning experience. One of the highlights of the event was a live demonstration of proper hand hygiene techniques, reinforcing the importance of infection prevention. Open discussions provided attendees with opportunities to ask questions and deepen their understanding of AMR and safe antibiotic practices.
