Dubai Medical University – College of Pharmacy organized Faculty Development Workshop on Enhancing Student Success Through Academic Advising
On February 26, 2025, the College of Pharmacy at Dubai Medical University hosted a Faculty Development Session titled "Enhancing Student Success Through Academic Advising," led by Dr. Doaa Kamal AlKhalidi, Assistant Professor in the Pharmacy Practice Department. The session was attended by the Dean of the College, Prof. Sherief Khalifa, along with the faculty members. It served as a reflective discussion on a workshop previously attended by Dr. Doaa and organized by CLICKS.
The session highlighted the critical role of academic advising in student success, focusing on key themes such as advising approaches, best practices, challenges, and strategies for student engagement. A significant part of the discussion centered around the global academic advising community, particularly NACADA’s Four Pillars of Academic Advising, which emphasize core values, essential competencies, and institutional standards for effective advising.
Following the presentation, faculty members engaged in an active and insightful discussion, exploring ways to further enhance academic advising practices within the institution. The session underscored the importance of a structured advising system, faculty-student engagement, and technology integration to support students both academically and professionally.
This initiative, which encouraged faculty reflection on externally attended workshops as a means of professional development, was well received by attendees. Faculty members recognized the session’s value in fostering continuous improvement in academic advising practices.
With a strong commitment to enhancing student success, Dubai Medical University continues to prioritize faculty development as a key strategy in achieving this goal.
