Erika L. Kleppinger, PharmD, BCPS is an Associate Clinical Professor at Auburn University Harrison College of Pharmacy. Since joining the Pharmacy Practice faculty in 2003, she has practiced in several ambulatory care practice settings, coordinated and taught a variety of skills laboratory activities, and worked on curriculum development and revision. Currently she teaches self-care, patient assessment and communication skills, the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process, pharmacy calculations, dermatology, cough/cold management, and immunization certification training. She also works with faculty to assess student skill mastery through performance-based assessments, including objective structured clinical exams (OSCEs). Her research interests include the scholarship of teaching and learning focused on alternative grading strategies, competency-based education, and student engagement.
Dr. Kleppinger graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 2001 with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. She completed a Pharmacy Practice residency at Temple University Hospital and a Primary Care specialty residency at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in association with the Philadelphia VA Medical Center. In 2003, Dr. Kleppinger became a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and from 2006-2016 she was a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE).
Her outreach efforts include coordinating the Resident Teaching and Learning Program (RTLP) offered to pharmacy residents across three states and assisting with a summer Pharmacy Camp at Auburn University for high school students. Dr. Kleppinger is active in the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) through service on various committees with the Section of Teachers of Pharmacy Practice, Laboratory Instructors Special Interest Group, and Council of Faculties. She currently serves on the Academic Affairs Committee which has been charged to explore competency-based pharmacy education (CBPE).
